UV printers are excellent printing machines for decorating and printing a wide range of products. Additionally, they work well on many different substrates. UV stands for ultraviolet. However, in the printing industry, this term refers to the process and the ink.
These UV printers use UV inkjet ink to print on products. A UV/LED light dries the printed ink. Please note that drying and curing ink are two different terms. Once the ink is dry, it takes about 24 hours to cure.
A major advantage of a UV printer over pad printing or screen printing is the ability to print full-color graphics on demand. Additionally, these machines offer quick changeover and print-on-demand capabilities.
The UV printer determines the types of products that you can print. For example, a UV flatbed printer will print on semi-curved surfaces as well as flat hard-good objects. In some cases, the machine can be retrofitted with a "kebob,” which will enable the machine to print on cylindrical substrates. A cylindrical inkjet printer, on the other hand, is a versatile direct-to-object inkjet printing system for printing on cylindrical and conical (tapered) drinkware.
While the machine determines the type of product to print, the ink determines the substrate. Learn more about UV ink.
